Nini (feat. Clarisse Muvemba)

A 3 track house ep (21m 4s) — released April 3rd 2006 on Heya Hifi

Disco. Afro. Disco. The idea of "Nini" was born back in 2004, the year when the style of afro house erupted. While Combo and Alf Tumble were making their remix of Lonesome Echo Production's "Spirit of Drums" they came up with two guitar hooks that they wanted to save for another occasion, for another vocalist. (If you listen closely you can hear that both songs are based on the same harmonies).

This second release from Sumo's forthcoming album features Clarisse Muvemba – a young and upcoming Swedish soul queen, who also speaks and sings in Lingala (spoken in Kongo). Obviously she's the woman behind the lyrics of this irresistible afro-disco stomper.

Kembela-kembela-kembela ye pima-a Zibula-zibula-zibula ye pima-e

To keep the disco vibe of this release intact, Sumo asked French top producer Claude Monnet if he could give the song a new treatment. He came up with a formula which demanded more vocal work from Clarisse. A couple of weeks later Claude delivered this spectacular, hi-nrg disco monster. Well done. During the additional vocal recording the bonus track "Bo Ningisa" was born. It simply means "shake it". Like they do in Kongo. So get up!
